Peaches

Peaches are my favorite food. Which is why I bought six beautiful-looking peaches at a fruit stand here in the town the other day. But when I sliced one up last night I was STRICKEN to see that it was all pith. And things didn't improve when I popped that slice into my mouth. I have never ever eaten a worse peach. And I take that personally. DO YOU HEAR ME, UNIVERSE? I have graciously accepted a certain amount of bad luck over the past few years, BUT I WILL NOT STAND FOR PITHY PEACHES.

Anyway. I thought I could salvage them in a pie. My mistake, of course, was that I didn't bake a pie. I used Becky Thomas' muy famosa open faced cold peach pie recipe. And I served it at dinner last night. Guess what. Nobody--not even my Georgia peach peaching-loving daughter-in-law (she's from Georgia, get it?)--could eat it.

So then I gave it to the dogs. They ate the crust. And left the peaches untouched.

I had a peach pie once at Marie Calendars that was amazing. It was a perfect storm of hunger meeting pie. I am rarely hungry when I eat pie...so this was amazing. I will not forget that piece of pie. I hope you can avenge that pithy peach soon. We should always have a good taste in our mouth...

I love peaches too. They are best in milk with sugar on top. Yum! That is pretty bad that not even your dog would eat the pie. Sorry. Better luck next time.

I hope you've found a delicious peach since this failed pithy peach pie episode.

My favorite memory of my Baba was eating sliced peaches in milk with brown sugar. Mmmmmm.

I once had a stake president whose father sent all his sons on missions with the proceeds from a peach orchard they planted from pits. Needless to say, peaches came up in some way in every talk he ever gave. It was pretty good stuff. I hope you've had a better peach since!

Brens family is coming up in a few weeks to pick peaches from the orchards around here. You should hitch a ride.

I can't stand the fuzz. Thinking about it hurts my mouth and has the effect of fingernails on a chalkboard to my cringing body. Give me a naked nectarine instead.

I got a nasty peach myself the other day. And it was so beautiful on the outside. It was very desirable, but not delicious.

Bad peaches are an insult both to peaches and to humankind. There is just no reason.
