readers write

so this week the desnews forwarded me a seven page letter from a reader who wants to help me to choose the right by not choosing caffeine. especially the kind of caffeine i accidentally took to church once in the form of a dr. pepper can. which was full.

i would write this reader to tell him/her thanks for his/her concern. but oops! he/she forgot to include his/her return address! and also sign his/her name!

it's always an interesting experience to be on the receiving end of an anonymous letter. i used to find them disturbing, sometimes even mildly threatening in their anonymity.

now? well. basically i just think she/he would have felt better about the endeavor if he/she had felt brave enough to sign the letter. owning up is better than owning up, i think.

it's hard, though!

I absolutely love showing up at church with a diet coke. The rebellious side of me, I guess...

I always think, that people who do these sorts of things have deep problems, deep down, and just manifest it in the form of trying to fix other people. Take your Dr. Pepper to church, I say. My bishop drinks it. ;)

I don't drink cola, but if we ever move to Utah, I might need to start. I think I'll protect my virtue by staying out of Happy Valley.

I wrote it. I've been worried about your caffeine consuming habit for sometime and the fact that you drink it straight--non of this diet stuff for you.

I sent it anonymously, so you wouldn't know what a dinky, cowardly worm I am.

I, for one feel like caffeine will lead to the destruction of our souls and our society.

Forget pornography, infidelity, and all of the other things we humans do in secret.

I can't believe Louise kept it under 10 pages. Talk about restraint.

And no, I did not drink 32 ounces of diet mt. dew last night. No-one can prove a thing.

I took the story of taking a Dr. Pepper to church as a cautionary tale. Ever since I heard you tell it last July, I have been off the caffeine. I've told others that I stopped drinking it because I wasn't sleeping at night, but it isn't true. I was having nightmares that I was walking down the aisle of the chapel with a diet Coke with lime in one hand and my scriptures in the other. Thank you for being brave enough to share your experiences with us!

The fantasy of living crutch-free is just that--a fantasy. I'm pretty sure I won't need a coke, or tea, or potato chips, or shopping when I'm dead. But until then, I do need them, from time to time. To, y'know, live my life and get through my days.

And the story of you and the Dr. Pepper at church, I consider to be one of the great holy stories. It is a pillar of my faith, frankly.

I have a friend who is on the caffeinated soda police force. (It's possible that Louise is trying to take credit for her work.)

Every time she takes Excedrin to help with her chronic headaches, I think about pointing out that the amounts of caffeine she's consuming is more than if she were to drink 32oz of the evil beverage.

But then I worry that she'd probably stop taking the Excedrin, and she really does have bad headaches. I'm doing her a favor, right?

There was a woman in our ward who, in the middle of sacrament meeting, took out a can of pepsi, poured it into her 1-year old's bottle, gave the bottle to him, and he quieted immediately. So hilarious. And I know the rest of us moms were probably thinking, why didn't I think of that?

I just found this post. Stay strong, AC. (Closed fist, raised.) Caffeine is way better than speed, and speed is way better than meth (which itself is way better then 12 rounds of ECT). I forgot my point.
