and now a word about hope

as i was driving around the other day--random thoughts always hit me when i'm driving around--i was thinking about how easy it is to become discouraged when you write. and also how this discouragement thing stops people from moving forward. i started thinking about all the people who have something to say but who've stopped trying to say it because of continued disappointments.

this thought made me sad.

so let's all promise ourselves to keep going, okay?

Wow, your post couldn't have come at a better time! Yesterday, I received the first draft of my manuscript back from a friend whose opinion I valued. As I looked through the pages and pages of edits and suggestions, I started getting discouraged. I nearly threw it in the garbage, along with my dream of being a writer. So, thank you, Ann. I'm going to take your advice and keep going. Oh, and somehow I'm going to figure out how to develop a tougher skin.

Are you talking to yourself?

Ha ha, Louise. I was thinking the same thing.

A wonderful author told me, "Whine. Whine away, it's all part of the process."

Discouragement comes just as sure as the elation.

Fighting through it is the part we can't quit on.

Sigh. That's where I am right now, this very morning. At the corner of Hope and Despair, about to take a turn onto the road less hopeful and throw in the towel. Thank you.

And you don't know me but I love reading your words. So don't you give up. Please.

Amen Sister --that's meant in a total non-relief society way. More of a southern, church hat wearing, hallelujah shouting, way.

Thanks for these thoughts Ann. It helped me realize I'm not alone.

Those words of encouragement sent me back to my computer to put out some more submissions and guess what I had a request for more pages today!

Yes, let's keep up the hope! I blogged about this today. You said it much more succinctly than I could. So good to see you at Authorpalooza Saturday.
