talking gratitude here

so there's this oddly famous lady in salt lake who has the world's longest fingernails. literally. she's in the guinness book of world records and everything, which why? what would take you to that place where you wanted to make that your life's goal? at least when i was in mutual they forced you to make practical goals involving exercising and scripture reading and NOT growing your nails out two feet so you could scare the holy crap out of kids who came to your house for trick-or-treating purposes.

anyway. i was talking to a man the other day who used to work at a store where this nail lady shopped. she would try on rings sometimes and the process took a lot of time and a LOT of assistance from store employees who had to slide and loop those rings up the nail until they hit her ring finger. and every time this guy would go home and say WTH. how does she do anything, ANYTHING. AND I MEAN ANYTHING with those things.

i, on the other hand, have one extremely excellent good hand which can do many many many things.

and i am grateful.

and now i and my excellent hand are off to tooele again to speak again. this time to a women's conference. tooele has become my home away from home this month.

The longest in the world? Really? Another feather in our cap.

Woah. That lady lives in Utah? I never knew that! I would probably barf if I had to be one of those people sliding the rings up her nasty curly fingernails... Hope Tooele was fun! By the way, 2 weeks from now we'll know what the baby is. Yay! Miss you Ann!

I'm sure there's some psychological term designated specifically for the desire to be in the record book of oddities.

In the meantime...

Tooele will be so surprised when you walk through the door. They'll be all: Hey, where's Ann?
And the lady in charge of the doilies and flowers will be all: I don't know but check it out, it's X-Tina.

This was in the news in SLC (and nationwide) a couple years ago. Those amazing nails? Broken in a car accident.

Perhaps it's performance art.

Hah! I remember that lady! I worked in a bookstore in Sandy and she came in sometimes. I'm glad it was a bookstore. I don't think I would have enjoyed trying to put rings on those fingers.

This won=man was the grandmother of one of my childrens' classmates - he brought her once for show and tell when I was room mothering. The children were fascinated in a horrified way. It was better than a turtle.

I love you Ann Cannon! And if I was the worker helping her try on rings I probably would have said WTH to her face.
