Because you have to think, and who wants to do THAT? I'm painting doors myself and am finding it completely satisfying. In my next life, I'm going to be an interior designer. Oh, but then I have to work with PEOPLE. Yikes, forget that.

I think it's the adrenaline rush you get when you fall in love with your characters or a scene or a wonderful piece of dialogue. Problem is that rush only happens once in a blue moon. The rest of the time we are in anxiety!

Just read this in NYT:
V. S. Pritchett once wrote. “The fewer novels or plays you write—because of other parasitic interests—the fewer you will have the ability to write,” Pritchett said, lamenting his own small fictional output.

John Updike decided early to write one book a year and did more than that. Just something to hit ourselves in the head with.

Okay if I share your blog post with my English 1010 class?

I can't remember where I heard it or who said it, but this made me laugh: Most writers don't like to write, they just like to have written.

I can relate to that!

Because there are so many better (easier) things to do. Like dusting your desk or picking lint balls off your sweater.

So funny, Kaylie! I was just picking lintballs off my sweater before checking in!
