U2

I have a long tradition of barely missing epic concerts--Led Zeppelin here in SLC in 1973 and U2 here shortly after 9/11. I swore then that before I died I'd make it to a U2 concert.

And I could have. They were here at Rice-Eccles last night. Ken even asked if I wanted to go and I said . . . no. Because I didn't care that much anymore. I figured they'd just play a bunch of new crap anyway, and who's interested in that?

As it turned out, they played a lot of their classic stuff. I know this because I could stand out on my front porch in the Aves and listen, which I did for awhile. But then I went inside because I got bored. And then I went to bed wishing the concert was over already because it was just so loud.

Did you hear that? I was whining about how the loudness of a concert would affect my sleep. Oh, people. When did I get to be such a freaking old lady?

I say next time go to the concert. I say this, admittedly, as a person who regularly whines about how much of a project it is to go, say, to Red Butte for the concert series. But then when I do go, I always have such a great time. And being old makes certain things so much sweeter, like seeing a band you've always wanted to see.

I have seen Bruce Springsteen and Prince and U2 in concert--all big life goals. Each of these concerts had its pleasures, and also its pains, but I am so glad I went. Even better were concerts I had few expectations for--seeing Chrissie Hynde and the Pretenders a couple of summers ago was so great, and I didn't really expect much--she was amazing. And she's older than you or me, missy. I am hereby challenging...myself! to go to some project of a concert. Old is for suckers.

Hi. This is Becca. But Google/Blogger has me beaten and bloodied, and I can't log out my kid.

So here's what we say in our house (but mostly on our infrequent and painful forays into American Eagle: "If it's too loud, I'm too old."

I am too old for American Eagle. (But not yet for Bono.)

I'm always like that about concerts. Love music. Hate it loud.

(Incidentally, I ended up in the middle of the U2 madness trying to get Sam to flag football yesterday. And DUDE.)

Ah concerts....I loved them, I haven't been in such a long time because it is just so expensive, but I loved going.....of course it was a religious experience when I went to see Stevie Nicks....I should have been Stevie Nicks...but yet I was born kind of an Olga, big hands. When I saw her on Oprah not long ago it sounded like she lives alone in Malibu with a bunch of dogs. Still better than me....
