Eugene is the ultimate contrarian, anti-establishment, stick-it-to-the-man city in the country. Case in point. It's the only town I've visited where the dogs ignore you while the cats run up to you and say PET ME PET ME PET ME PET and also HI!!!!
Had a nice run and met several lovely cats this morning. Off to Corvallis soon.

Hello from Eugene!
I'm here to see the fabulous granddaughter and also to watch the game in Corvallis where BYU will hopefully not suck.
I also want to mention that today is the 103rd anniversary of the last time the Cubs won the World Series. Like Alec's computer decal says: "Anyone can have an off-century."

A mini report
I went to Eugene, OR last week with a suitcase full of clothes and a heart full of love.
I returned from Eugene, OR with a suitcase full of clothes, a heart full of love, and no voice. When I CAN talk, I sound like Marge Simpson's sisters, Selma and Patty. Or like Lindsey on ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT when she said hi to Steve Holt. Or like I've been smoking five packs a day. Since kindergarten.
Fantastic trip, though. Didn't do much but sit around and marvel at the baby and her parents. They're all so beautiful.

Lucky moi
For my birthday Ken gave me a ticket to Eugene for baby-kissing purposes. I'm on my way in a few minutes. Can't wait to squeeze that little girl.

Something you see a lot of in Eugene . . .
. . . are guys not wearing shirts. And I ask WHY? What is it about this place that makes men of all ages, sizes and shapes strip down to their pecs? Not a good look really. Most guys don't look like Matthew Mcconaughey or Mario Lanza with their shirts off. And the ones that do (including Matthew Mcconaughey and Mario Lanza) look vaguely narcissistic, you know?
Ken arrived yesterday to see the bambina. I'm happy to report he's kept his shirt on.
Had another Voodoo Doughnut this morning--the Voodoo Doll Doughnut with a pretzel stake through its heart. Because why not?

The happiest place on earth . . .
. . . isn't D-land. It's Eugene! Why? Because random citizens come up to you and say, "Hey, Lady, would you like to hear a joke?"
This happened to me and my daughter-in-law yesterday. Naturally I said OF COURSE! Who doesn't love it when random citizens come up to you and say, "Hey, Lady, would you like to hear a joke?"
So here's the joke: "Why do mermaids wear seashells?"
ANSWER: "Because the D-SHELLS ARE TOO BIG!"
You're welcome.
