Dear My Bed,
Just want you to know that I like you. I really, really like you. I've been worried you might think otherwise because I haven't crawled inside you much lately what with trips to SF! the beach! Wyoming! And now I'm going to St. George for the weekend, because my parents are celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary and we have plans for eating and play-going down south to celebrate.
But I'll return. Eventually.
Sincerely,
That person who used to sleep in you

The Eagle
Ken, Q and I are holed up here in St. George because we wanted to get away from winter for the Prez Day Holiday. Except that it's snowing here too . . .
So we've been doing indoor things like playing cards and going to movies. Yesterday we saw THE EAGLE, which I enjoyed a lot. It's kinda old school in terms of its production and themes. The movie does not rely on special effects the way so many action/adventure films do now. You get the feeling that it's all really mano a mano up there on the screen, which is kind of cool.
The movie also has a non-ironic approach to the subjects of honor and courage, both physical and moral. In a way I felt like I was watching something that could have been made in the fifties (except that the film is much grittier-looking), and quite frankly that was refreshing. No doubt this is due to the fact that The EAGLE is based on a book (THE EAGLE OF THE NINTH LEGION) written in the 1950's by the wonderful children's and young adult author Rosemary Sutcliff, who had a long and fabulous career.
And finally, it must be said, that Tatum Channing is way way way WAY easy on the eyes. Thank you, Tatum Channing, for putting on a short skirt and thereby making this girl happy.

More about the poodle
I left St. George and the poodle behind today. My parents told me to leave him at the poodle spa there so they can pick him up on their way home from California. I dropped him off this morning, and may I say that the poodle spa is much nicer than many of the rooms Ken and I have stayed in when we travel. I imagine when the poodle retires tonight there will be a classy dog treat on his classy satin dog pillow.
Seriously? I wouldn't mind coming back as one of my mother's dogs in the next life.

Signage the New York Post would admire
So I kinda love the New York Post, even though it's owned by the Evil Overlord, aka Rupert Murdoch. The reason? The headlines, baby, the headlines. Do the google thing if you want some entertaining examples. Meanwhile, I have to say the headline writers were really on their game during the whole Tiger Woods story with winners like these: "I'm a Cheetah!" and also "Tiger on the loose: lock up the waitresses!" Headlines like those make me proud to be a human being, even if the article content doesn't.
Anyway, as I was driving down St. George Blvd the other day, I noticed a sign for one of those places that sells removable tops for pickup trucks. And the sign went GO TOPLESS! Which is sure to get your attention in a place like St. George. Although I think maybe the sign should have also added (JK!) because the average age here is maybe like 90 years old.
Okay. Back to writing now.

Goin' south
My husband and I have decided to make a little impromptu trip to St. George tonight to stash his girlfriend (i.e. the green miata convertible) for the winter. This means the possibility of burgers from In n' Out looms on the horizon.
Had a conversation last night with writer friends about what we want. Fame? Money? And here's what we concluded. That someone wants to buy our next book. That there can even BE a next book. Far from being supremely confident beings, most of us semi-pro writers exist in a semi-fearful survival mode, I think.
Thanks for your input this week. Feel free to post more. I love hearing from you guys.
And oh btw it turns out I have a natural appitude for the air guitar. I nailed about a dozen songs on my first try yesterday.

First things first
Just got back from St. George. Spent the weekend offline. Came home and found kind posts. Just want to say thanks to all of you. Reading your comments is like opening up a nice little gift on Christmas morning. Or eating cupcakes. Which I won't be doing for awhile, I've decided, because I have gained many pounds the last 18 months. But whatever. The point is I do appreciate you guys.
