Boys and books

Here's my piece.  It appears online today and in the paper tomorrow.  It never occurred to me that I was being sexist by talking about this subject, but I had a little (friendly) feedback suggesting that I was.
Again, it's always interesting to see how people respond to things.

Amen to this piece. As a voracious reader with a bunch of boys who are "meh" on books, I agree with all of it.

Loved it. As a bookseller, this is a coming parents with boys problem. Sometimes girls too, but applies equally. Oh, reluctant readers- we have books for all of you!

I don't think your article is sexist at all. Everything you said is backed by reading research. You made the point that there are exceptions, but boys typically read differently from girls and it is helpful for parents (especially moms) and teachers (especially female ones) to be aware of these issues. Great piece with sound, researched-based advice.
